Five NFL Flag National Championships
The Virginia Hurricanes run competitive flag football teams for girls in grades 1 to 12 that compete locally, regionally and nationally. The Hurricanes have won five NFL Flag Football National Championship titles.
During the Spring and Summer, the Hurricanes offer flag football workouts and coach girls teams in competitive tournaments. During the Fall, the Hurricanes help coach teams in the Arlington County NFL Flag Football League.
Championships
For seven straight years (since formation of the program), Hurricanes teams won NFL Flag Regional tournaments and qualified to compete in the NFL Flag National Championship tournament at the NFL Pro Bowl. At their seven NFL Flag National Championship tournament appearances, Hurricanes teams have advanced to the title game eight times and were crowned National Champions five times (2017, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023). Virginia Hurricanes teams have won an NFL Flag National Championship title the past four years in a row!
In February 2023, the Virginia Hurricanes 10U, 12U and 14U girls flag football teams competed in the 2023 NFL Flag Football National Championships at the NFL Pro Bowl in Las Vegas. All three teams performed impressively and reconfirmed the Virginia Hurricanes' status as one of the country’s most successful girls flag football programs.
At the 2023 Championships, the Hurricanes REPEATED as the 10U Girls National Champions!! The 10U team dominated the field of 14 teams from Florida, New York, New England, Texas, Ohio, Las Vegas and elsewhere. The 10U team outscored its opponents 101-19.

In February 2022, the Virginia Hurricanes 10U, 12U and 14U girls flag football teams competed in the 2022 NFL Flag National Championships at the Pro Bowl in Las Vegas. The 10U team WON the organization's fourth NFL Flag National Championship title since 2015!
The 14U team had their own EPIC performance - persevering against super physical and talented players to advance to the Championship game and finish as the #2 team in the Nation!
The 12U team entered the tournament as the defending National Champions. Despite having many younger players that season, the 12U team continued its winning ways before being eliminated by the eventual tournament champion.
Head Coach and founder Mike Rivera was one of just five coaches nationally nominated as the 2022 NFL Flag Football Coach of the Year!
In January 2021, the Virginia Hurricanes sent 10U, 12U, and 14U girls teams to compete in the NFL Flag Bowl in Florida. The Hurricanes displayed a dominant performance, winning 15 games and losing just 2 games. The 12U team won the National Championship(!), the 10U team advanced to the Championship game (losing that game by just 1 point), and the 14U team advanced to the semi-finals.
In 2018, the Hurricanes became the first NFL Flag program to have teams in the same age group (14U) win two separate NFL Flag Regional Tournaments (in Pennsylvania and New Jersey) in the same year and, thus, have two 14U girls teams compete at the same NFL Flag National Championship tournament.
